My name is Jared Shadkin, and I’m an aspiring 13 year old artist with a mission to raise awareness about Dystonia. I sell my art through my web site, wwwjaredspaintings.com and I donate 50% of the money raised to the Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia & Parkinson's Foundation (www.dystonia-parkinson.org). Dystonia is a neuromuscular disease that causes uncontrollable and painful spasms in one or more parts of the body. While not widely known, Dystonia has no cure and affects an estimated 500,000 people in North America alone--more than Muscular Dystrophy, Huntington's disease and Lou Gehrig's disease combined.

Jared's Paintings was on break from December-April, so the 2013 Winter and Spring Collections have been delayed but they are now up. Also, the JP Newsletters from December-April have not yet been sent out, although we sent out our May newsletters. Also, the Summer Collection will come up on June 1. All Summer Collection paintings should be purchased with the JP Express service, because the JP team will be on an inspiration vacation from June 17th - August 5th, and all paintings ordered from June 12th and onwards will be painted upon our arrival and shipped between late august and early september!

I have dystonia and in January 2011 underwent Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery, which is one of the few treatments for Dystonia. Once I recovered, I was able to walk better, write more, and even ride a bike!
I started painting at the age of 5 and my home filled with my artwork as my love for painting grew. When I was diagnosed with Dystonia, painting became a wonderful outlet for me to express myself during the painful everyday battles I had to endure. My road to recovery has become a lot smoother because of painting.
